Text Quotes
My biggest aspiration is to inspire people to do good. I believe that our wish for a harmonious world begins and ends with doing good. To inspire and empower people to focus on goodness, I wrote a new book called ‘Activate Your Goodness: Transforming the World through Doing Good.’  (Wrote Quotes) When I started out, I wrote the songs, recorded the songs, mastered, mixed, did the artwork, made the packaging and did the distribution, all myself. Now I understand what everyone’s jobs are, who is doing them right, and who isn’t.  (Wrote Quotes) How my emotions starred as I played! During one of this tug-of-war contest between knowing right and doing wrong, I wrote the words to a song on my own for the first time.  (Wrote Quotes) Mike Campbell and Don Henley and I wrote ‘The Heart of the Matter,’ which was a huge hit for Don.  (Wrote Quotes) Don Quixote was a song for a 1969 Michael Douglas movie called Hail Hero! I wrote the title song for the film and they also used the Don Quixote one I had submitted.  (Wrote Quotes) I wrote ‘Don’t Look Back’ in November 2011, and when I wrote the novel, it wasn’t contracted, so there was a freedom in that - no expectations or anything like that. It was also my first contemporary novel I’d written and sold, which was to Disney/Hyperion in January of 2012.  (Wrote Quotes) Here’s a little song I wrote. You might want to sing it note for note. Don’t worry, be happy.  (Wrote Quotes) What I was concerned about when I wrote the ‘Downward Spiral’ record was being a self-centred destructive force. The point was tearing down everything in a search for something else.  (Wrote Quotes) I was mostly an indoor girl at university. Where other students did drama or music or sport alongside their degrees, I wrote. I used to work on essays and classwork during the day and ‘The Bone Season’ in the evenings.  (Wrote Quotes) I wrote as a kid, but I never wanted to be a writer, particularly. I had been drawing and painting for years and loved that.  (Wrote Quotes) Sheldon Vanauken wrote that the strongest argument for Christianity is Christians, when they are drawing life from God. The strongest argument against Christianity? Also Christians, when they become exclusive, self-righteous, and complacent.  (Wrote Quotes) I knew from the age of 16 that I wanted to be a writer because I just didn’t think I could do anything else. So I read and read and wrote short stories and dreamed of escape.  (Wrote Quotes) The author O. Henry taught me about the value of the unexpected. He once wrote about the noise of flowers and the smell of birds - the birds were chickens and the flowers dried sunflowers rattling against a wall.  (Wrote Quotes) The closer you get to death, the more alive you feel. Dylan Thomas wrote, Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. My dad always taught me to live like that. Dad wrote a poem too. It goes, Dune buggies. Woohoo!  (Wrote Quotes) I begin early in the morning and edit everything I wrote the previous day. I write until mid-afternoon. My goal is to write a chapter per week, and if I am not finished by Friday, I write on the weekend. I get a lot of fan emails and answer them every day. In the late afternoon, I attend to the business of publishing, etc.  (Wrote Quotes) The first fiction I ever wrote was short stories. I was writing short stories in my late teens and early twenties, and I think it’s how you teach yourself to write.  (Wrote Quotes) In Among the White Moon Faces, I wrote about my desire to be a writer as rooted in my obsessive hours of reading English novels and poetry. It was that spur, that desire, that pushed me to set aside love and marriage in my early twenties.  (Wrote Quotes) I worked initially in very low-budget independent films that I often wrote. My early work was all written by myself, and then I adapted ‘Tsotsi,’ so I was used to the writing process being, in a way, integral to my directing. I felt it really prepared me.  (Wrote Quotes) I’ve never been good with deadlines. My early novels, I wrote by myself. No one knew I was writing a novel; I didn’t have a contract.  (Wrote Quotes) In my first book, ‘A Return to Love’, I wrote about things in the outer world that need to change - how we need to ameliorate deep poverty, heal the earth, end war.  (Wrote Quotes) Read this and thought of you: Through joy and through sorrow, I wrote. Through hunger and through thirst, I wrote. Through good report and through ill report, I wrote. Through sunshine and through moonshine, I wrote. What I wrote it is unnecessary to say. ~ Edgar Allen Poe  (Wrote Quotes) When I was in the eighth grade, I wrote this huge long paper about how I had no idea what I was gonna do with my life, but that I wanted to make a difference and touch even if it was like one person’s life... inspire them.  (Wrote Quotes) My eldest brother Atticus just won an Oscar some years ago, as he wrote the music for The Social Network.  (Wrote Quotes) Eleanor Roosevelt started off almost every early article she wrote, starting with, My mother was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. And I think her life was a constant and continual and lifelong contrast with her mother.  (Wrote Quotes) Elvis Presley is all there is. There just ain’t no more. Everything starts and ends with Elvis. He wrote the book. He is everything to do and not to do in the music business.  (Wrote Quotes) I read a lot when I was in school in the United States, and even though writing in English is very difficult for me, I wrote in journals.  (Wrote Quotes) One of the things I’ve always liked about my husband is he’s very good at lots of stuff. He was an English teacher when I met him. He wrote poetry and played the guitar. As time went on, he decided to go into economics, so he’s very analytical and mathematical in addition to his artsy side.  (Wrote Quotes) The way Shakespeare wrote Fallstaff is with a heightened language and everything. That’s the genuis of having Ken Branagh here as well. Shakespeare doesn’t require you to have a doctorate in his language or whatever to understand him. It just has to be directed and played right. It’s all about scale and presence and getting these huge, epic stories across.  (Wrote Quotes) Eric Clapton wrote Layla when he was coked out of his mind. Later on, it nearly killed him.  (Wrote Quotes) I’m not comparing myself at all to him, but I like the idea that Ernest Hemingway always wrote about certain things he knew, he knew the ins and outs, back to fronts of what he was talking about. I love that as an inspiration for myself, to keep it true to what you know.  (Wrote Quotes)
