Text Quotes
I wrote poems and an essay about that weird language. We still remember it to a certain extent, and it still comes up when we’re all together. It’s so fundamental to how I think.  (Wrote Quotes) It’s better for me to go up against someone’s passion with my passion and then clarifying something that he wrote. Then I know how to work around certain things.  (Wrote Quotes) Cinema builds memories; great films continue to exist in the spectator’s mind. We are naturally capable of and prone to nostalgia. A spectator will reconstruct a film he or she has seen, years later, and may even change their original opinion. One critic, for example, once gave the finger to one of my films; later he wrote me to apologize.  (Wrote Quotes) The emotions triggered by fiction are very real. When Charles Dickens wrote about the death of Little Nell in the 1840s, people wept - and I’m sure that the death of characters in J.K. Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter’ series led to similar tears.  (Wrote Quotes) One reason I find all this character growth and narrative swerving so exhilarating is because I never got to do it when I wrote for TV. Our characters needed to remain consistent from week to week.  (Wrote Quotes) I’ve tried to be inclusive in my 2B’ series. Over the course of three books, I wrote African-American characters, a paraplegic character, gay and lesbian characters, a bisexual, Jewish heroine, a multiracial hero, Korean and Chinese-American characters, and a multiracial supporting character.  (Wrote Quotes) When I realized I wanted to do more writing and less traveling around the world teaching live seminars, I decided to write the first ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul(R)’ book. I knew I wanted to have 100 stories in the book, so I wrote or edited two stories a week for a year.  (Wrote Quotes) As Harry Blackmun said when he wrote Roe v. Wade, `Once a child is born, the child has basic constitutional rights: due process, equal protection of the laws.’  (Wrote Quotes) I was writing all my childhood. And I wrote two novels when I was 17, which were terrible. And I’m not sorry I threw them out. So, I wrote. I had to write. You know, the thing was, I had no education.  (Wrote Quotes) Since childhood, I wrote a lot of fiction, a lot of stories, but I most loved writing essays  (Wrote Quotes) When I wrote ‘Runaways,’ I was a naive kid who thought that all parents were evil. Now that I’m a wise old man with children of my own, I am certain that all parents are evil.  (Wrote Quotes) I wrote ‘I’m Me’ because I was asked to write a children’s book  (Wrote Quotes) The most difficult book I wrote was the fourth in a series of linked children’s books. It was like pulling teeth because the publisher wanted exactly the same but completely different. I’d much rather just do something completely different, even if there’s a risk of it going wrong.  (Wrote Quotes) I discovered writing children’s books was a way to keep living in my imagination like a child. So I wrote a number of books before I started ‘Magic Tree House.’ Then, once I got that, I never looked back because I could be somewhere different in every single book.  (Wrote Quotes) As I wrote ‘The Christmas Lamp’ I realized that tradition is priceless, whether you have a small family, a large family, or no family.  (Wrote Quotes) One Christmas I had no money, and so I went home and just, like, wrote a poem; I mean, I didn’t write them, but I just handed out poems as Christmas presents. Like, ‘Here’s a Pablo Neruda poem that really made me think of you.’  (Wrote Quotes) The wind bit hard at Valley Forge one Christmas. Soldiers tied rags on their feet. Red footprints wrote on the snow . . .  (Wrote Quotes) I wrote my first play as extra credit for my fourth grade English class. ‘Can Helen Stop Smoking’ was a satire on the ill effects of cigarette smoking. My friend Vicki Haugabrook played as Helen and I directed the show. At the time, my brother Vince was leading the campaign to get our grandmother to quit.  (Wrote Quotes) I wrote a great deal about the Civil Rights Movement when I was writing for ‘The Nation’ in the 60s, and also for Esquire magazine. Reading the biography of Coffin, it just reminded me that in those days, when you saw the term ‘Christian,’ it usually meant people for civil rights and for justice.  (Wrote Quotes) I wrote my first script, which was 50 pages, at age 15. It was about two brothers in love with the same nurse while they’re convalescing in a Civil War hospital.  (Wrote Quotes) I love Hitchcock movies. I took a Hitchcock class in college, so I saw all his movies. I wrote papers on his movies.  (Wrote Quotes) David Letterman used to say, ‘I wasn’t the class clown, but I wrote for him,’ and that’s exactly it. You want to be known to be funny without having it pointed out.  (Wrote Quotes) I took a writing class in college, liked it, and my first year out of school I couldn’t get a job, so I wrote a play.  (Wrote Quotes) I wrote my first 30 books as a teacher. I would read to my classes, and they’d give me feedback. I was trying to role model.  (Wrote Quotes) I tried something when my career was really struggling: reaching out to people, to filmmakers I wanted to work with. I genuinely wrote a letter to Clint Eastwood saying, Hey man, I’m a fan and I would be an extra in your movie.  (Wrote Quotes) I’m still there, watching those possessed children, as far away from the mystery now as I was then. I’ve never written, though I thought I wrote, never loved, though I thought I loved, never done anything but wait outside the closed door.  (Wrote Quotes) I wrote ‘Airborn’ after completing three books about bats. I loved my bats, but what a treat it was to write about humans again. They could eat food other than midges and mosquitoes, they wore clothing, they slept in beds - all this struck me as wonderfully novel.  (Wrote Quotes) I never wrote music or arranged songs or lyrics when I was under the influence of anything but coffee. That’s not gone away.  (Wrote Quotes) I was lucky enough to have the songs in my first show written by George and Ira Gershwin. Then Cole Porter wrote five shows for me  (Wrote Quotes) When I wrote ‘The World Is Flat,’ I said the world is flat. Yeah, we’re all connected. Facebook didn’t exist; Twitter was a sound; the cloud was in the sky; 4G was a parking place; LinkedIn was a prison; applications were what you sent to college; and Skype, for most people, was a typo.  (Wrote Quotes)
