Text Quotes
All I know is that as an audience member, I am less and less inclined to go to the theater  (Theater Quotes) Growing up, I wasn’t an athlete or anything like that. The only place I felt like I belonged was in the theater  (Theater Quotes) Going to the theater or having the honor of performing in theater reminds you of your humanity in a very different way. It’s a real release and an incredible challenge. But the stage is a dangerous place. You gotta be trained. Plus, crowds like when things go wrong. I think that’s part of the thrill. Anything can happen  (Theater Quotes) I would feel ill without theater. It’s kind of a cliche, but every time you make a mistake, you really do have to learn from it to move on. When you’re doing something live, there’s no time to dwell. Hopefully you’ll laugh it off, but if not, you can always take a day to hate yourself  (Theater Quotes) Theater is an engagement between the actor and the audience. Film is a different sort of medium. It’s not immediate, but in some ways it’s more involving  (Theater Quotes) There tends to be this hierarchy of film and television, and theater is somewhere else in its own milieu. However, as actors, yes, we love to do theater because it’s our story. Nobody can edit it, the curtain goes up, and it’s ours for two hours or three, or whatever. And we tell it  (Theater Quotes) I love the theater, but if I had to choose, I would choose a film at this time in my life. Something meaty, to sink my teeth into  (Theater Quotes) I studied theater in college, and I really wanted to be an actress and play a lot of different roles. Then I made landing on a television comedy my main focus  (Theater Quotes) There are bound to be differences in any artistic collaboration with landscape elements, or theater, of lighting elements  (Theater Quotes) When you play arenas you can create whatever you want. At a theater the height of the stage and the limitations of the theater can make you feel more separate from the audience  (Theater Quotes) I want to do more movies. I feel like it’s a totally different skill set than there is to theater. It’s much more internal  (Theater Quotes) I gained a great deal from the period during which I worked in theater and I value those things a great deal  (Theater Quotes) I’m a really good team player. That’s what it takes to work in the theater. That’s what it takes to work in a band with musicians and writers  (Theater Quotes) For me to want to be an actor was an improbable idea. I wasn’t beautiful or pretty in any conventional way. I wasn’t an ingenue at 22. But I was always certain of it and certain of its power. I felt the power when I went to the theater at 9, 10, 12 and 14  (Theater Quotes) They say that theater is the actor’s medium, television is the writer’s medium and film is the director’s medium, and it’s really true  (Theater Quotes) I don’t think that theater is the higher medium, that it’s better than film  (Theater Quotes) In theater and dance, I was trying to win someone’s approval, trying to get in, trying to be good. It felt out of my control, whereas music suddenly felt like this free expression. It was fun  (Theater Quotes) I come from musical theater, and a lot of musical theater is about accepting fantasy. I think it is more about just being open and accepting  (Theater Quotes) There’s nothing like the energy in a small comedy club room or a small theater when it’s going really well. I can see everybody’s face practically in the whole room. There’s no cameras in the way, and it’s just me  (Theater Quotes) In theater, you are there, you have a character, you have a play, you have a light, you have a set, you have an audience, and you’re in control, and every night is different depending on you and the relationship with the other actors. It’s as simple as that  (Theater Quotes) I do like to go to movies. I like to be in the theater. I like the event of it  (Theater Quotes) I don’t like being away from theater that long. The muscles get atrophied if you don’t exercise them  (Theater Quotes) The energy of live theater is indescribable. You are just in the moment for an hour and a half  (Theater Quotes) I’m a theater actress. I love rehearsal. I could have six weeks of rehearsal and think it’s not enough. But on film, you don’t get that luxury  (Theater Quotes) Making a film or doing a play are completely different experiences and entirely fulfilling, but completely unique. I also think one complements the other. People often say that theater is about flexing your muscles, and is actually real acting, whereas I sort of disagree  (Theater Quotes) I love theater. To have the people onstage right there, to be working in concert with other artists, this is a like a school of fish moving together  (Theater Quotes) I love theater. I love sitting in an audience and having the actors right there, playing out what it means to be a human being  (Theater Quotes) I want to focus on each scene. I’m a real perfectionist, and I don’t want to feel like I didn’t consider every possible variation of a scene. I come from a theater background, so I’m used to a lot of repetition, and I’m used to really attacking something over and over and over again  (Theater Quotes) I did some theater as a kid for fun. But it was really by chance that I landed into acting  (Theater Quotes) For me, my 20s were all about reaching for the brass ring of work in theater, television, and film, surviving in between by waiting tables, painting houses, serving coffee, and temping  (Theater Quotes)
