History is my passion. So I write what I love to read. I find that if I combine history with a strong, sensual romance, it is like a one-two punch. The reader doesn’t want the history without the romance, and of course the heavier the history, the more it has to be leavened with a sensual, all-consuming love story.  (Virginia Henley Quotes) I was born in England and went to school there. That’s when I discovered my undying passion for history - not just for the Middle Ages, but all periods of history. My favorites are medieval, Elizabethan, and Georgian; however, I’ve written stories set in periods as early as ancient Rome, right up to the Victorian era.  (Virginia Henley Quotes) I love to have real people of history interact with my fictional characters. History gives me the plot. I research the period meticulously, and then I blend in a romantic and sensual love story to give it balance. The heavier the history, the more romantic the couple must be.  (Virginia Henley Quotes) I first started writing historical fiction in the late 70s and kept pictures of Kathleen Woodiwiss and Rosemary Rogers on my refrigerator until my first book was published by Avon in 1982. The biggest advantage of this genre for me is that it allows me to blend fact and fiction.  (Virginia Henley Quotes) It was an easy decision for me which books to self-publish as ebooks. I got the rights back to two Avon books that I wrote at the start of my career. I paid to have these two books, ‘Bold Conquest’ and ‘Wild Hearts,’ scanned. When I got them back as documents, I had to clean them up and correct all the typos, etc.  (Virginia Henley Quotes) I begin early in the morning and edit everything I wrote the previous day. I write until mid-afternoon. My goal is to write a chapter per week, and if I am not finished by Friday, I write on the weekend. I get a lot of fan emails and answer them every day. In the late afternoon, I attend to the business of publishing, etc.  (Virginia Henley Quotes) To have a successful writing career, you must be willing to sacrifice a great deal. The book, the deadline come first before anything else. Writing is not a job; it is a lifestyle, and it is a roller-coaster ride of highs and lows. You need self-confidence and an iron carapace.  (Virginia Henley Quotes)
