Text Quotes
I write most of my first drafts on an old manual typewriter, a really old one. It’s a big black metal Woodstock from about 1920. I try to write everything down at once, in one sitting. The longer stories in this collection are divided up into sections. Each section represents a different sitting, a different idea for the same story.  (Section Quotes) Nobody in France would ever say ‘He’s a Jewish novelist’ or ‘She’s a black novelist,’ even though people do write about those subjects. It would look absurd to a French person to go into a bookstore and see a ‘Gay Studies’ section.  (Section Quotes) For like everyday, just kind of hanging out, I love flannels. Part of my closet, there’s a whole section of flannels because I love them so much. Slouchy, oversized hats and fedoras. I just got these 2 amazing hats that I really love, blue and gold trim with woven material by D  (Section Quotes) You go into the book store, there’s the cut-out of Dr. Phil, and then the dreaded women’s health section where every book, instead of the menopause book with the fanged Medusa head on the cover that might be more pertinent, you always see a flower and a poppy and a daisy and a stethoscope.  (Section Quotes) It may sound a bit like an army barracks, but the truth of the matter is: there must be some time laid aside for arranging, time for working on either a book or an article - I’ve written two articles in the last four months for the New York Times book review section.  (Section Quotes) I’m interested in so many different things and I’d like to cover a lot of territory. I’m trying to see my show as the Sunday ‘Times.’ You have the Arts and Leisure section, you have the Op-Ed page, you have the Book Review... even the Style section has those wonderful essays about relationships.  (Section Quotes) The story of gluten as it relates to the brain throws a wide net, so much more encompassing than the inflammation of a small section of the small intestine that characterizes celiac disease.  (Section Quotes) When I sit down to make a set list I usually think, ‘We’ll build it up here, take it down here, go into a quiet section here, explode here,’ in a way that there’s a flow and it doesn’t feel like shuffle on an iPod.  (Section Quotes) When Ford sells a car, a dealer isn’t allowed to take out the engine and put a different one in. When a newsstand sells the Washington Post, no one can go to the newsstand and pay them to rip out the classified section and put their own classified section in - if they could, they would do so.  (Section Quotes) The Emoluments section shares with the Constitution. That`s not a law that Congress could change or the president could ignore.  (Section Quotes) The era of industrial Britain, where a large section of our workforce provided cheap labour in factories and processing goods, is over.  (Section Quotes) Several years ago, I was creating a Christmas present for the family, a self-published cookbook featuring recipes my grandmother had collected and created over decades. While interviewing her for the biographical section, she began to talk about her courtship with my late grandfather.  (Section Quotes) You probably know the name of Rosa Parks. You probably know that her refusal to move to the colored section in the back of a city bus sparked the Montgomery bus boycotts, one of the pivotal moments in the American civil rights movement.  (Section Quotes) When a nation has just emerged from the throes of a great civil warfare, where section was arrayed against section, class against class, two things are to be done: First, the work of reconstruction is to be effected; Secondly, a willingness for the proper acceptance of the issue’s decision is to be created.  (Section Quotes) You open a section of ‘The New York Times,’ and there’s a review or a story on a choreographer or a dancer, and there’s an informative, clear image of a dancer. This is, in my view, not an interesting photograph.  (Section Quotes) I certainly treasure the memory and indeed the picture, which still hangs in my house in Scotland, of Ronnie Barker and I with the Choir when we came to Wales to shoot our Welsh choir section of the Two Ronnies programme. You are very close to my heart.  (Section Quotes) I just want to be really clear about this: Anyone who has read Colin Powell’s biography - there’s an entire section where he talks about experiencing segregation. Colin Powell did not appear when he became head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. That’s not how it happened.  (Section Quotes) No, Queer Eye has a book coming out before mine, in the Spring of 2004, in which each of us has a section and we do a brief overview of our subject area.  (Section Quotes) I think it’s actually harder to watch the meet from the media section. You have no control there.  (Section Quotes) In my entire life, any time I’ve ever lost something, I’ve gotten something even better going around the next corner. It’s like one door closes and another door opens. As long as I can walk through the produce section in every grocery store in this country and eat the grapes that they’re going to throw away, I know I can be fine.  (Section Quotes) There are fans of Twenty20 cricket, and we need to ensure that we give them the cricket they want to see. We need to keep Test cricket alive, because there is a section of fans who love and worship Test cricket and have basically helped this game grow, and they are as important as anybody else.  (Section Quotes) In the crime fiction section, you may just find a novel that talks about the place where you’re from and speaks to you about your life - or the life yours could have become if a little misfortune had come your way.  (Section Quotes) I felt as out of place as a left-handed violinist in a crowded string section  (Section Quotes) As I work, I see my writing - each scene, each chapter, each section, each book - in three-act structures and classic myths, and I analyze them through the handy filter of the detective story.  (Section Quotes) There’s not a lot of whimsicality in the form, not a lot of indulgence allowed. Like when I was younger, I would sometimes go, Oh, every other section will be narrated by a chair. Or, It will be a double helix shape! That never really worked.  (Section Quotes) I was interested in the ways that artists responded to totalitarianism - the Czech Jazz Section, Romanian absurdist theatre, Brecht’s alienation effect. The anything-goes, anarchic qualities of jazz and Surrealism seemed to offer a way to cross some of the forbidden frontiers of Eastern Europe.  (Section Quotes) Without the Fender bass, there’d be no rock n’ roll or no Motown. The electric guitar had been waiting ‘round since 1939 for a nice partner to come along. It became an electric rhythm section, and that changed everything.  (Section Quotes) I got started acting by going to auditions that my mom found in the entertainment section of our local news paper. Then, I got a manager and started going out on more auditions.  (Section Quotes) I grew up in a household without a TV. We lived next door to a library for a while, and at one point, I checked out all the books in the fairy tale section. I remember the librarian’s quiet smile as I’d bring back one stack and exchange it for another.  (Section Quotes) My cousin is gay, I always tell him that in our family tree, he’s in the fruit section  (Section Quotes)
