Text Quotes
Ultima came to stay with us the summer I was almost seven. When she came the beauty of the llano unfolded before my eyes, and the gurgling waters of the river sang to the hum of the turning earth. The magical time of childhood stood still, and the pulse of the living earth pressed its mystery into my living blood  (Sang Quotes) I was pretending that I did not speak their language; on the moon we spoke a soft, liquid tongue, and sang in the starlight, looking down on the dead dried world  (Sang Quotes) She told me her father taught her to live life way beyond the cusp of it, way out in the outer reaches where most people never had the guts to go, where you got hurt. Where there was unimaginable beauty and pain... They were always reminding themselves to stop measuring life in coffee spoons, mornings and afternoons, to keep swimming way, way down to the bottom of the ocean to find where the mermaids sang, each to each. Where there was danger and beauty and light. Only the now  (Sang Quotes) I grew to see my affliction as my gift. When I sang, I soared. I could soar higher than all those hurts aimed at my heart. All I needed was the courage to be me  (Sang Quotes) The morning stars sang together. And a person of delicate ear and nice judgment discussed the singing at length, and showed how and wherein one star differed from another, and which was great and which was not. And still the morning stars sang together  (Sang Quotes) There was a time in our past when one could walk down any street and be surrounded by harmonious buildings. Such a street wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t necessarily even pretty, but it was alive. The old buildings smiled, while our new buildings are faceless. The old buildings sang, while the buildings of our age have no music in them  (Sang Quotes) Everything I sang sounded awful. So I went outside and I screamed. Everyone pretty much agreed it was awful  (Sang Quotes) I’ve never really focused on if I had good habits when I sang or if I had bad habits, or if I was breathing correctly. So, I started doing vocal exercises and would stretch out before I sang, stuff to help my breathing. It’s funny, you breathe your whole life then you find out you’re not doing it correctly  (Sang Quotes) There is a long history in country music of songs celebrating drinking and lamenting drinking. Country songs for the most part have always been heavily rooted in reality. The first artists were the people next door. They would sing on their porch or in their living room or at a barn dance. They sang about what they knew, and a lot of that was drinking  (Sang Quotes) I’ve been singing all my life. I’ve always wanted this. I sang in church, in school plays, and my parents gave me vocal lessons. My parents always said this was destined for me  (Sang Quotes) I couldn’t resist. I went over and joined in, and we just sang the song together,... They had no idea that I had written it, or who I was. I was just some weird guy who wanted to join in on the singing  (Sang Quotes) When they turned off, it was still early in the pink and green fields. The fumes of morning, sweet and bitter, sprang up where they walked. The insects ticked softly, their strength in reserve; butterflies chopped the air, going to the east, and the birds flew carelessly and sang by fits and starts, not the way they did in the evening in sustained and drowsy songs  (Sang Quotes) In the pure mathematics we contemplate absolute truths which existed in the divine mind before the morning stars sang together, and which will continue to exist there when the last of their radiant host shall have fallen from heaven  (Sang Quotes) As I continued to fall into the dark void, embraced by the vault of the heavens, I sang to the beauty of the stars and made my peace with the darkness  (Sang Quotes) You could say singing is in our genes. Both our parents sang and made up songs constantly  (Sang Quotes) I began with dance, doing ballet at 3, then tap, jazz, modern. Then I sang in church choirs, learned how to play clarinet and drums, sang with rock bands and only then did I get into musical theatre  (Sang Quotes) I used to be really nervous when I sang. Like, when I was a kid starting young, 18 and 19, and my dad really had to sort of push me to start singing in front of people. Ever since I got out there and really started doing it, the only thing I’ve ever tried to do is just sort of is be myself, you know, never put on a voice. Sing naturally  (Sang Quotes) I felt alive when I read a script and acted out a scene, or sang a song. It was my dream. I’m just very lucky that I’m still doing it and able to earn a living from it  (Sang Quotes) I was very inspired by my mother. She was a vocal teacher and sang in a band, and my first memories of her were going out with her on the local circuit  (Sang Quotes) As I stepped to the stage to pick up my degree, and the locusts sang off in the distance  (Sang Quotes) For me, the moment the mic is on and it’s rolling, it’s impossible to vocally relax for some reason. But one day, I’m going to be able to sing the way I sang when I was a little kid, completely open and free. That’s, I think, the one thing that’s changed: Growing older, I’m not ashamed to hear my voice  (Sang Quotes) While guns rumbled in the distance, we sang, painted, made collages and wrote poems with all our might. We were seeking an art based on fundamentals, to cure the madness of the age, and find a new order of things that would restore the balance between heaven and hell  (Sang Quotes) I can read music, but I have no technique, and singing was never an option even though I sang a lot growing up  (Sang Quotes) After college, rather than pursue real work, I joined a folk group and sang in coffee houses and nightclubs, an occupation that does little for the intellect and even less for the complexion  (Sang Quotes) A lot of songs I sang to crowds to get their reaction. That’s how I knew they’d hit  (Sang Quotes) Mozart didn’t need a scheme for his music. He played and sang with the heavenly lightness of a child  (Sang Quotes) The shadow of my mother danced around the room to a tune that my own shadow sang  (Sang Quotes) The danger with the internet is that you don’t need to think about music, you just search for it and you find the answer. Singing used to be part of everyday life. Women sang while pounding corn. Men sang while paddling canoes  (Sang Quotes) My mother gave me a ukulele at age eight, and I sang the popular tunes of the day  (Sang Quotes) I love dancing, but I’m not that good of a singer. I sang in punk rock bands in high school and college and stuff, but that mostly involved lots of screaming  (Sang Quotes)
