Text Quotes
I guess I never grew up. I was still reading kids’ books in high school and college. I was always interested in writing or illustrating children’s books, and I started collecting out-of-print books when I was about 10 years old.  (Reading Quotes) I don’t read young adult or children’s books, now that my grandchildren are beyond the age of my reading to them. I read reviews, and so I’m aware of what’s out there. But I tend not to read the books.  (Reading Quotes) I did have a child, and I was reading a lot of picture books to her, but at the same time writing a children’s book was something that I’d been wanting to do for many years, pretty much since the start of my career.  (Reading Quotes) I got hit by the bug of reading - not via a person, but via the one-room library in our small town. I remember that the children’s books were in the right-hand corner near the floor. Often when I went there, I was the only visitor.  (Reading Quotes) There’s a different flavor to children’s literature you read after you grow up than there was reading it as a child. Things that were sweet as a child become bitter once you grow up.  (Reading Quotes) Children’s reading and children’s thinking are the rock-bottom base upon which this country will rise. Or not rise. In these days of tension and confusion, writers are beginning to realize that books for children have a greater potential for good or evil than any other form of literature on earth.  (Reading Quotes) If I do a poetry reading I want people to walk out and say they feel better for having been there - not because you’ve done a comedy performance but because you’re talking about your father dying or having young children, things that touch your soul.  (Reading Quotes) The Chinese have a habit of reading. Many families regard books as the most valuable family asset.  (Reading Quotes) I fell in love with reading when I was allowed to choose whatever books I wanted to check out of the library. I was around nine years old when I began choosing my own books in earnest.  (Reading Quotes) My partner doesn’t read. He’s not illiterate - he just chooses not to read - and I love reading. I’m obsessed with reading.  (Reading Quotes) Be a good reading role model. Show kids what you like to read, what you don’t like to read, how you choose what you read. Let them see you reading.  (Reading Quotes) I will always respect the beliefs of fellow Christians who aren’t comfortable reading or writing explicit love scenes, but I believe romances are beautiful and spiritual books that celebrate the best of what love has to offer and mirror the love God has for his children.  (Reading Quotes) I suggest a nationwide reading of the Holy Scriptures during the period from Thanksgiving Day to Christmas.  (Reading Quotes) My mother was an unbeliever - and still is. My father was a nominal Catholic. We would go in to church at the last minute before the gospel reading, take Communion, and walk right out again.  (Reading Quotes) The ‘means of grace’ are such as Bible reading, private prayer, and regularly worshiping God in Church, wherein one hears the Word taught and participates in the Lord’s Supper. I lay it down as a simple matter of fact that no one who is careless about such things must ever expect to make much progress in sanctification.  (Reading Quotes) By the last decades of the 21st century, church worship will still take the form of reading passages of traditional texts - the Bible, the Koran, the Rig Veda - but physicist-priests will preside over the ceremonies.  (Reading Quotes) As a result of reading science fiction when I was eight, I grew up with an interest in music, architecture, city planning, transportation, politics, ethics, aesthetics on any level, art...it’s just total! It’s a complete commitment to the whole human race on all the Earth. That’s what science fiction is about.  (Reading Quotes) When you look at a city, it’s like reading the hopes, aspirations and pride of everyone who built it.  (Reading Quotes) I wrote a great deal about the Civil Rights Movement when I was writing for ‘The Nation’ in the 60s, and also for Esquire magazine. Reading the biography of Coffin, it just reminded me that in those days, when you saw the term ‘Christian,’ it usually meant people for civil rights and for justice.  (Reading Quotes) Whatever education I got was from experience and reading. But I also realize I wouldn’t pass my friend’s sixth-grade class.  (Reading Quotes) I was supposed to be cleaning out the barn, but I was usually reading romance novels. That’s how you grow up to be a thriller writer.  (Reading Quotes) I liked climbing trees and could often be found up one reading a book. I played games with Dad and drew maps for him on isometric paper. It was very bonding.  (Reading Quotes) I have known Farley Mowat all of my life, from reading his books as a child to becoming a close friend of his over the last three decades.  (Reading Quotes) I am a close friend of Robert Loggia. And I just love how, with actors, there’s the screen persona. Here is Robert, known for his portrayal of many characters, including gangsters. But in real life, he is elegant and erudite. He sits in the garden reading the sonnets of William Shakespeare.  (Reading Quotes) People often ask, why aren’t you reading about what it is you’re working on right now? And the truth is, you only get three pages a night before your eyelids close.  (Reading Quotes) Some writers like to work in other places like coffee shops, but I can’t - I’d end up people-watching. And if I were at a bookstore, I’d be reading. Sometimes I have some music on, but usually I like it quiet.  (Reading Quotes) Adapting to our Second Adulthood is not all about the money. It requires thinking about how to find a new locus of identity or how to adjust to a spouse who stops working and who may loll, enjoying coffee and reading the paper online while you’re still commuting.  (Reading Quotes) I rise near dawn, make a strong cup of coffee, wander to my desk and come fully awake by reading something written the day before.  (Reading Quotes) Write a lot. And finish what you write. Don’t join writer’s clubs and go sit around having coffee reading pieces of your manuscript to people. Write it. Finish it. I set those rules up years ago, and nothing’s changed.  (Reading Quotes) People who are busy doing things - as opposed to people who are busy sitting around, like me, reading and having coffee in coffee shops -don’t have opportunities to kind of collect and organize their experiences and make sense of them.  (Reading Quotes)
