Text Quotes
Today we read books ‘extensively,’ often without sustained focus, and with rare exceptions we read each book only once. We value quantity of reading over quality of reading. We have no choice, if we want to keep up with the broader culture.  (Reading Quotes) I read the Steve Jobs book, and that kind of changed everything. I’ve been, like, an Apple geek my whole life and have always seen him as a hero. But reading the book, and learning about how he built the company, and maintaining that corporate culture and all that, I think that influenced me a lot.  (Reading Quotes) With ‘California,’ editors were reading it, and fast, and others were emailing my agent to request it. Ultimately, there were a few editors interested in the book, and it sold at auction about two weeks after the submission process started. I couldn’t believe it!  (Reading Quotes) The first comic I can remember ever reading was a ‘Fantastic Four’ issue that my dad bought out of the drugstore once. The thing that struck me about it was that the ending wasn’t an ending. It was essentially a cliffhanger. It was the first time I had ever read anything like that, where you read a book, but the book isn’t the book.  (Reading Quotes) I read about violent things. I think what I get out of that is entertainment by learning about different things, and reading the genre and getting an understanding of motivations. But at the end of the day, it’s still a book, and I can walk away.  (Reading Quotes) Reading groups, readings, breakdowns of book sales all tell the same story: when women stop reading, the novel will be dead.  (Reading Quotes) Information is not knowledge, and knowledge is not wisdom. Reading - even browsing - an old book can yield sustenance denied by a database search. Patience is a virtue, gluttony a sin.  (Reading Quotes) It’s not even my job to educate, but what I do is try to facilitate by creating a book that works on different levels. I do want to entertain and bring some joy to the reading experience. If it holds a little kernel of knowledge that readers choose to explore, well, that’s great.  (Reading Quotes) For me, learning is a continuous process and an all-inclusive one - reading a book, learning a musical instrument or learning the martial art called taekwondo. Teach myself something new - that’s my prayer.  (Reading Quotes) All good and true book-lovers practice the pleasing and improving avocation of reading in bed ... No book can be appreciated until it has been slept with and dreamed over.  (Reading Quotes) Try reading the Book of Mormon because you want to, not because you have to. Discover for yourself that it is true.  (Reading Quotes) Throughout the ages, Christians have adapted John of Patmos’s visions to changing times, reading their own social, political and religious conflicts into the cosmic war he so powerfully evokes. Yet his Book of Revelation appeals not only to fear and desires for vengeance but also to hope.  (Reading Quotes) I’m not dead. But when I am, it’s likeI don’t know, I guess it’s like being inside a book that nobody’s reading.  (Reading Quotes) I struggle with reading a bit. I’m slightly dyslexic, so reading takes me quite a while, and in general, I’m not a big book reader at all. And something like ‘Game of Thrones’ seems very daunting to me!  (Reading Quotes) I wasn’t a big comic book reader. I always had trouble knowing which box to read next. I was always reading from the wrong box. I was like, this is a comic book that doesn’t make any sense! I think I was reading them all out of sequence.  (Reading Quotes) Writing a book for me, I expect, is very similar to the experience of reading the book for my readers.  (Reading Quotes) I think it’s so important for young readers to find a book or series that ignites their passion for reading, especially boys, whose interest in reading wanes as they grow older.  (Reading Quotes) The process of reading is reciprocal; the book is no more than a formula, to be furnished out with images out of the reader’s mind.  (Reading Quotes) In general, I think, less is more, and that if a reader stops reading because a book is too icky then I’ve failed in my obligation to the readers.  (Reading Quotes) I was always taught that book keeping was more relevant than book reading. The only thing worth reading was meant to be a balance sheet.  (Reading Quotes) When people are reading a book, it’s a personal thing. They’re reading it; it’s in their own mind; it’s in their own personal space when they’re reading it.  (Reading Quotes) I think that my first book - I was trying to write the kind of book I would have loved as a kid. So it’s sort of, like, a book inspired by my childhood reading and the passion that I felt about reading when I was a kid.  (Reading Quotes) I never had a favourite book! I liked all kinds of things - science fiction, so I read Heinlen and Ray Bradbury, and I also liked reading about kids like myself, so I read Judy Blume and Norma Klein and Paula Danzinger and a lot of other writers. I also read James Herriot!  (Reading Quotes) My husband and I are huge bibliophiles. He’s always reading ‘The New York Times Book Review’ and then ordering 20 books online.  (Reading Quotes) E-books are great for instant gratification - you see a review somewhere of a book that interests you, and you can start reading it five minutes later.  (Reading Quotes) When I meet children at book signings, they’ll bring me photos of when I first met them many years ago when they were reading my picture books, and now they’re telling me how much they enjoy my novels.  (Reading Quotes) I often feel that I have a split personality. I love more than anything to be in my study writing, but when it’s time to do a book tour, I love that extroverted part, too - talking to people, reading, traveling, going out into the world.  (Reading Quotes) When you read a supernatural suspense story or a ghost story, or a horror story, the evil at play is something that you can dismiss. And I wonder if, in this time, if people really want to be sitting on the subway reading a book about someone releasing a dirty bomb on the subway.  (Reading Quotes) All reading should be pleasurable! I don’t like people who keep reeling out the ‘books are so important’ line. First and foremost, reading is about entertainment, the same as movies, video games and music.  (Reading Quotes) When I’m not writing or tweaking my computer, I do embroidery. When I’m not plunging into the past, tweaking, or embroidering, I’m reading books about history, computers, or embroidery.  (Reading Quotes)
