Text Quotes
One of the best places for a shy person to meet people is in a coffee shop. If you are a reader, bring a book and read it there - that gives a guy something to ask you about. Same goes for sketching, writing, or any hobby you can take with you  (Reader Quotes) Well, each interpretation of an event, setting or character is unique to each of those who read it because they clothe the author's description with the memory of their own experiences. Every character they read is actually a complex amalgam of people they've met, read or seen before - far more real than it can ever be just from the text on the page. Because every reader's experiences are different, each book is unique for each reader  (Reader Quotes) I grew up writing thank-you notes. Real, honest-to-goodness, pen-and-ink, stamped and posted letters. More than simple habit, it’s about what the commitment to expressing your thoughts and feelings in writing says about the character of the writer. About the joy such notes bring to the reader.  (Reader Quotes) Some of the greatest poetry is revealing to the reader the beauty in something that was so simple you had taken it for granted  (Reader Quotes) If poetry alters the way in which the reader views the world, then it has had its desired effect  (Reader Quotes) The thing to remember when you're writing is, it's not whether or not what you put on paper is true. It's whether it wakes a truth in your reader  (Reader Quotes) For the speedy reader paragraphs become a country the eye flies over looking for landmarks, reference points, airports, restrooms, passages of sex  (Reader Quotes) And if the reader has no taste for what he reads, all the time is wasted  (Reader Quotes) Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself  (Reader Quotes) The death of a child occasions a passion of grief and frantic tears, such as your end, brother reader, will never inspire  (Reader Quotes) Proverbs often contradict one another, as any reader soon discovers. The sagacity that advises us to look before we leap promptly warns us that if we hesitate we are lost; that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but out of sight, out of mind  (Reader Quotes) Such reproductions may not interest the reader; but after all, this is my autobiography, not his; he is under no obligation to read further in it; he was under none to begin. A modest or inhibited autobiography is written without entertainment to the writer and read with distrust by the reader  (Reader Quotes) The best programs are written so that computing machines can perform them quickly and so that human beings can understand them clearly. A programmer is ideally an essayist who works with traditional aesthetic and literary forms as well as mathematical concepts, to communicate the way that an algorithm works and to convince a reader that the results will be correct  (Reader Quotes) Probably all of us, writers and readers alike, set out into exile, or at least into a certain kind of exile, when we leave childhood behind... The immigrant, the nomad, the traveler, the sleepwalker all exist, but not the exile, since every writer becomes an exile simply by venturing into literature, and every reader becomes an exile simply by opening a book  (Reader Quotes) Many of the faults you see in others, dear reader, are your own nature reflected in them  (Reader Quotes) Though I am not an avid reader but I like romantic books. Love is a good thing. At times in love, there are disappointments…one must not keep expectations. I like to be positive in love. I believe in happy endings  (Reader Quotes) The clever reader who is capable or reading between these lines what does not stand written in them but is nevertheless implied will be able to form some conception  (Reader Quotes) I ask the reader to remember that what is most obvious may be most worthy of analysis. Fertile vistas may open out when commonplace facts are examined from a fresh point of view  (Reader Quotes) Nice writing isn’t enough. It isn’t enough to have smooth and pretty language. You have to surprise the reader frequently, you can’t just be nice all the time. Provoke the reader. Astonish the reader. Writing that has no surprises is as bland as oatmeal. Surprise the reader with the unexpected verb or adjective. Use one startling adjective per page  (Reader Quotes) I love the characters not knowing everything and the reader knowing more than them. There’s more mischief in that and more room for seriousness, too  (Reader Quotes) Just think, reader, what will happen to you if the truth of a mad beast overpowers the sane truth of man?  (Reader Quotes) In a mystery, you must play fair by giving all the clues, but disguise them by immediately distracting the reader with something else  (Reader Quotes) I love computers. I love writing on them. I love gadgetry. The thing is: I am a slow reader. So, if I am going to get my work done, I read, like, a newspaper and that’s it. If I got into websites and the internet, I wouldn’t get any work done  (Reader Quotes) I wanted to write a voice that for me, as a reader, had been missing from the chorus: the voice of an angry woman  (Reader Quotes) Yet if strict criticism should till frown on our method, let candor and good humor forgive what is done to the best of our judgment, for the sake of perspicuity in the story and the delight and entertainment of our candid reader  (Reader Quotes) Text is just ink on a page until a reader comes along and gives it life  (Reader Quotes) What I’m constantly striving for in my prose is clarity. So that, ideally, the writing will become so transparent that the reader will forget that the medium of communication is language  (Reader Quotes) A wise reader reads the book of genius not with his heart, not so much with his brain, but with his spine. It is there that occurs the telltale tingle  (Reader Quotes) When a reader enters the pages of a book of poetry, he or she enters a world where dreams transform the past into knowledge made applicable to the present, and where visions shape the present into extraordinary possibilities for the future  (Reader Quotes)
