Text Quotes
So many people around the world have used nonviolence as a way to resolve a conflict that they faced in their lives. And they continue to use it everywhere all over the world there. And I think, in a way, nonviolence is our nature. Violence is not really our nature. If violence was our nature, we wouldn’t need military academies and martial arts institutes to teach us how to kill and destroy people. We ought to have been born with those instincts. But the fact that we have to learn the art of killing means that it’s a learned experience. And we can always unlearn it  (Nonviolence Quotes) Wars aren’t stopped by fighting wars, any more than you can fight fire with fire. You fight fire with water. You fight violence with nonviolence  (Nonviolence Quotes) I think that nonviolence is one way of saying that there are other ways to solve problems, not only through weapons and war. Nonviolence also means the recognition that the person on one side of the trench and the person on the other side of the trench are both human beings, with the same faculties. At some point they have to begin to understand one another  (Nonviolence Quotes) Absolute hospitality would in no way amount to the absence of violence. To the contrary, it would enthrone violence precisely under the guise of nonviolence because it would leave the violators unchanged and the consequences of violence unremedied  (Nonviolence Quotes) Nonviolence against humans cannot take firm hold in society as long as brutality and violence are practiced toward other animals  (Nonviolence Quotes) Vegetarianism preserves live, health, peace, the ecology, creates a more equitable distribution of resources, helps to feed the hungry, encourages nonviolence for the animal and human members of the planet, and is a powerful aid for the spiritual transformation of the body, emotions, mind, and spirit  (Nonviolence Quotes) To me nonviolence has come to represent a panacea for all the evils that surround my people. Therefore I am devoting all my energies toward the establishment of a society that would be based on its principles of truth and peace  (Nonviolence Quotes) Nonviolence in politics is a new weapon in the process of evolution; its vast possibilities are yet unexplored  (Nonviolence Quotes) Nonviolence is an unchangeable creed. It has to be pursued even in face of violence raging around you  (Nonviolence Quotes) I have been true to the principles of nonviolence, developing a stronger and stronger aversion to the ideologies of both the far right and the far left and a deeper sense of rage and sorrow over the suffering they continue to produce all over the world  (Nonviolence Quotes) Instead of scrambling for security in national victory and domination, in preparation for war and military aggression, we must relearn the values of cooperation and sharing, of nonviolence and support  (Nonviolence Quotes) I learnt the lesson on nonviolence from my wife, when I tried to bend her to my will. Her determined resistance to my will on the one hand, and her quiet submission to the suffering my stupidity involved on the other, ultimately made me ashamed of myself and cured me of my stupidity in thinking that I was born to rule over her  (Nonviolence Quotes) The cry for peace will be a cry in the wilderness, so long as the spirit of nonviolence does not dominate millions of men and women  (Nonviolence Quotes) Violence and nonviolence are, after all, two different forms of theater. They both depend and thrive on the response of an audience  (Nonviolence Quotes) I will repeat again that females are the symbols of nonviolence. Another thing I would say is that a female is more compromising. A female can talk with anyone easily  (Nonviolence Quotes) I’m convinced nonviolence can be successful in working for positive change in our relations with other countries right now  (Nonviolence Quotes) If a house is burning, and bucket of water is thrown on the blaze and doesn’t extinguish the fire, this doesn’t mean that water won’t put out fire. It means we need more water. And so with nonviolence  (Nonviolence Quotes) My nonviolence does not admit of running away from danger and leaving the dear ones unprotected  (Nonviolence Quotes) Truth and nonviolence demand that no human being may debar himself from serving any other human being, no matter how sinful he may be  (Nonviolence Quotes) We may never be strong enough to be entirely nonviolent in thought, word and deed. But we must keep nonviolence as our goal and make strong progress towards it  (Nonviolence Quotes) We are constantly being astonished these days at the amazing discoveries in the field of violence. But I maintain that far more undreamt of and seemingly impossible discoveries will be made in the field of nonviolence  (Nonviolence Quotes) I have consistently preached that nonviolence demands that the means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek  (Nonviolence Quotes) The very first step in nonviolence is that we cultivate in our daily life, as between ourselves, truthfulness, humility, tolerance, loving kindness  (Nonviolence Quotes) Peace is the alternative to war, and nonviolence should be seen as the antidote to violence, not simply as its opposite. Nonviolence is more concerned with saving life than with saving face  (Nonviolence Quotes) Nonviolence means an ocean of compassion. It means shedding from us every trace of ill will for others. It does not mean abjectness or timidity, or fleeing in fear. It means, on the contrary, firmness of mind and courage, a resolute spirit  (Nonviolence Quotes) If you give yourself totally to the nonviolence struggle for peace and justice you also find that people give you their hearts and you will never go hungry and never be alone  (Nonviolence Quotes) The essence of nonviolence is love. Out of love and the willingness to act selflessly, strategies, tactics, and techniques for a nonviolent struggle arise naturally. Nonviolence is not a dogma; it is a process  (Nonviolence Quotes) Nonviolence is absolute commitment to the way of love. Love is not emotional bash; it is not empty sentimentalism. It is the active outpouring of one’s whole being into the being of another  (Nonviolence Quotes) I plan to stand by nonviolence, because I have found it to be a philosophy of life that regulates not only my dealings in the struggle for racial justice, but also my dealings with people, and with my own self  (Nonviolence Quotes) If one does not practice nonviolence in one’s own personal relations with others and hopes to use it in bigger affairs, one is vastly mistaken  (Nonviolence Quotes)
