Text Quotes
I feel confident writing on my feet with improv, but it’s different when you’re sitting down and writing it out  (Improv Quotes) If you are in an improv jazz ensemble or a small chamber group, you learn to think fast on your feet and how to be flexible and to collaborate and compromise, and that may yield a creative outcome  (Improv Quotes) My brother was an improviser. He’s now a lobbyist, but he used to perform improv in the city when he was in high school, and one of the funniest guys I know to this day  (Improv Quotes) The current Babe Ruth of improv? Sacha Baron Cohen. He’s pretty amazing  (Improv Quotes) I’ve always felt that improv looks and feels more clever when you’re there to experience it live than when you have the degree of separation that television creates. Television raises expectations  (Improv Quotes) If improv gets reckless, you can feel it. A lot of shows try to do that, I find. When improv is done sloppily. It betrays the story. It can slow down the energy of the story you’re telling  (Improv Quotes) Sorry you were confused or frightened by the name of my sketch or improv group  (Improv Quotes) I’m terrified of improv. Improv in a show or in front of an audience sounds terrifying  (Improv Quotes) My first time performing was in the black box theater of my high school’s basement as a member of ‘Clownaz,’ the school’s improv team. We charged money for tickets, saying the proceeds went to our school’s recycling program. Then, immediately after the show, we divided up all the money and kept it  (Improv Quotes) Learn as much as you can about performing. Live theater, improv classes, music, stand up comedy, dance, anything to make yourself confident and comfortable in front of an audience. It’ll all come in handy when auditioning for producers and performing with other actors. The best voice actors all have a live performance background. And are competent, fearless, incredibly creative actors  (Improv Quotes) It’s so cliche, but I love the feeling you get from improv that anything can happen. The audience is already accepting that there are no props or costumes or furniture, so the performers can be anywhere doing anything; cut from underground to space, and it doesn’t matter  (Improv Quotes) What brought me to L.A. was work! I moved to Chicago after college - I went to Kalamazoo - did my nerd thing, graduated, and moved to Chicago to pursue improv.  (Improv Quotes) I think there’s something really freeing about improv, that it’s a collective, creative, in-the-moment piece. That’s really exciting and really frustrating, because it’s there and gone. There’s an amazing interaction with the audience that happens because they are very much another scene partner.  (Improv Quotes) Chicago was where I realized that improv is its own thing, its own art form. And through that, you kind of develop a work ethic of not selling it short.  (Improv Quotes) I was on the improv team in high school, and after I graduated, I joined an improv company that had been established 10 years prior to me getting there. They did longform improv, and I fell in love with it. It’s acting, character creation, collaborative, artistic expression and comedy - and it’s scary. It was a big rush.  (Improv Quotes) The current Babe Ruth of improv? Sacha Baron Cohen. He’s pretty amazing.  (Improv Quotes) You can’t improv off of bad writing. Then you have to actually create your objective, which is really hard to do in an element without the skeleton to go off of.  (Improv Quotes) Improv requires one thing I lack that I think most mothers need - the basic instinct to put someone else first.  (Improv Quotes) If a director brings a guy to their movie who does improv, they’ve got to let him do what he does - otherwise it’s like bringing Michael Jordan to your basketball team and telling him to just pass the ball and don’t shoot.  (Improv Quotes) I’m a very anxious person, and it’s hard for me to be in the moment. Improv demands that you be in the moment.  (Improv Quotes) When improv is bad, it’s excruciating to watch, and to be involved with it is a unique type of torture.  (Improv Quotes) I took an improv class in 2005 in Chicago at ComedySportz, which was short-form, more of a games-based improv. I remember it being real fun and helping with my stand-up. If I did an improv class, and then I did stand-up later, I felt looser on stage and more comfortable.  (Improv Quotes) Even though I do a more traditional type of being funny on television, I still know a lot of comedians and stand-ups and improv actors.  (Improv Quotes) I love improv so much. Listening. I think that’s the key. When you improvise, you put a lot of pressure on yourself to create, and to be generating information, and trying to be funny, but if you just listen to what’s being said to you, and then react honestly, you generally get better results.  (Improv Quotes) I know the benefits of having a really great improv show are amazing because it was this one rare and fleeting thing that was incredible, but the risk just didn’t appeal to me. I liked the control of sitting down and writing things.  (Improv Quotes) When I was coming up the DC Improv was considered the best Improv out there. It’s always been high quality stuff coming out of there.  (Improv Quotes) I was always a big fan of Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner’s 2000-Year-Old Man’ sketch. I think it’s one of the biggest influences on the podcast, definitely. You’d never say Carl Reiner was the funniest dude on there, because he’s just teeing it up, but he knows what questions to ask to lead to great improv.  (Improv Quotes) The biggest thing that comes out of improv that gets built on is just character traits. You know, for me the singing was born out of improv.  (Improv Quotes) I went to comprehensive school in North London and left without any qualifications [diploma]. And I was doing bits of acting and improv in a drama club in the evenings. Then I discovered you didn’t need qualifications to go to art school, you just needed a body of work.  (Improv Quotes) I love improv. I do it with my co-star John Michael Higgins in both ‘Pitch Perfect’ films.  (Improv Quotes)
