Text Quotes
I look at my grandparents and what they dealt with in the Japanese internment in Arizona. That sense of perseverance, of making the best out of an incredibly bad situation, has always been something I drew inspiration from. I always ask myself, ‘What in the world do I have to complain about?’  (Grandparents Quotes) I grew up in a reform Jewish family in St. Louis. Our idea of Judaism was no bar mitzvahs and a Christmas tree that had a skirt at the bottom embroidered with the names of my grandparents.  (Grandparents Quotes) My great grandparents are Scottish, and I have this very tenuous connection which I try and bump up whenever I can, because I’d much rather be Scottish than English.  (Grandparents Quotes) Miami Beach - that’s where I grew up, in a middle-class Jewish family led by my maternal grandfather. Me, my great-grandmother - a Holocaust survivor, who was my roommate - my grandparents, my mom and her brother all shared a four-bedroom house.  (Grandparents Quotes) My dad is from Queens. I remember visiting as a kid. My grandparents grew up here. All the actors I respected were coming out of here. All the hip-hop I was listening to - Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Biggie, Wu Tang - was coming out of New York. I’m just into it.  (Grandparents Quotes) I remember a very nurturing, safe environment: everybody knew who I was, who my parents were, who my grandparents were, what part of Russia we were from originally. That was a really comforting feeling. Non-Mennonites, when they see that aspect of it, think it’s a beautiful thing, and it is, but there’s so much going on besides.  (Grandparents Quotes) For those that don’t know, my sister was born with Down Syndrome, and she was institutionalized in the very early sixties. Me, being just a small boy and being shuffled around between my mother and grandparents, I never knew her.  (Grandparents Quotes) Being pregnant is the most natural thing our bodies can do. Our grandparents did it without all these books, and they came out okay.  (Grandparents Quotes) As a family comedian, it is so wonderful seeing everyone from kids through to grandparents being entertained by you.  (Grandparents Quotes) I’m kind of crazy with karma. I really believe that everything you do revisits you, so, I’m really adamant about the kids seeing the grandparents, so like, I can see my grandkids, you know what I mean?  (Grandparents Quotes) It’s one of the best programs I’ve ever seen because it benefits both sides: children, who need love, and grandparents, elderly people, who need to feel wanted.  (Grandparents Quotes) Parents do the best they can. But my parents are better grandparents than they were parents.  (Grandparents Quotes) My parents aren’t crazy conservative. They’re actually pretty open-minded. But my grandparents are, and where I’m from, East Texas, is the Bible Belt.  (Grandparents Quotes) My family is really, really Southern - I had two uncle Bubbas, and grandparents that we called Big Mama and Big Daddy.  (Grandparents Quotes) Personally, I’d be really glad to have a national conversation about whether to outlaw most forms of birth control. For once, the kids and their grandparents would find themselves on the same side.  (Grandparents Quotes) Our parents, worse than our grandparents, gave birth to us who are worse than they, and we shall in our turn bear offspring still more evil.  (Grandparents Quotes) We all stand on the shoulders of our ancestors. We’re in a relay race, relying on the financial and human capital of our parents and grandparents. Blacks were shackled for the early part of that relay race, and although many of the fetters have come off, whites have developed a huge lead.  (Grandparents Quotes) My father, Cecil Banks Mullis, and mother, formerly Bernice Alberta Barker, grew up in rural North Carolina in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. My dad’s family had a general store, which I never saw. My grandparents on his side had already died before I started noticing things.  (Grandparents Quotes) My parents are Irish, my grandparents are Irish, my great-grandparents are Irish. I was born in England; my blood is Irish.  (Grandparents Quotes) There was a lot of brokenness in my family. Let’s just say that I was raised by my grandparents.  (Grandparents Quotes) My grandparents had died in 1983, and suddenly my brother is out jogging before Mass, and he dies  (Grandparents Quotes) To tell you the truth, in the old Jewish shtetls, if your husband died, sometimes they’d have you marry the brother, and my grandparents were actually stepbrother and stepsister.  (Grandparents Quotes) Mum and Dad died of heart problems, my grandparents died of it, my sister has had mini strokes, my brother has had a heart attack - it’s genetic; there’s nothing I can do.  (Grandparents Quotes) I’m from New York. My grandparents were settlers of Long Island City. When they came here, there was no bridge, and they had to hire a boat across the river. They had a farm, and my grandmother had to go once a week to Manhattan to buy provisions - very primitive.  (Grandparents Quotes) When my children were young, one of the treats promised by their grandparents was a ride in Grandad’s car.  (Grandparents Quotes) Queens is famous throughout the world for diversity and tolerance. But really it’s what we have in common that makes our neighborhoods work, our students succeed, and our families able to care for children and grandparents as they can.  (Grandparents Quotes) If you’re lucky enough to still have grandparents, visit them, cherish them and celebrate them while you can.  (Grandparents Quotes) We live in a very different world than the one that we inherited from our parents and from our grandparents. Times are changing, and states must adapt to win.  (Grandparents Quotes) The beauty of America is that I don’t have to deny my past to affirm my present. No one does. We can love this nation like a parent and still embrace our ancestral home like cherished grandparents.  (Grandparents Quotes) I do feel Scottish in some way. Maybe it’s to do with visiting my grandparents here every summer as a child, but I am aware of my Scottish ancestry. It’s there all right, but it would be pushing it to label me a Scottish painter. Or, indeed, an anywhere painter.  (Grandparents Quotes)
