Text Quotes
What I love most about playing in front of people has something to do with a certain kind of energy exchange. The attention and appreciation of my audience feeds back into my playing. It really seems as if there is a true and equal give and take between performer and listener, making me aware of how much I depend on my audience. And since the audience is different every night, the music being played will differ too. Every space I performed in has its own magic and spirit  (Differ Quotes) Just as counterpoint and harmony follow their own laws, and differ in rhythm and movement, both formal tensions and color tensions have a development of their own in accordance with the inherent laws from which they are separately derived. Both, however, aim toward the realization of the same image. And both deal with the depth problem  (Differ Quotes) Those who differ most from the opinions of their fellow men are the most confident of the truth of their own  (Differ Quotes) The discussions of every age are filled with the issues on which its leading schools of thought differ. But the general intellectual atmosphere of the time is always determined by the views on which the opposing schools agree. They become the unspoken presuppositions of all thought, and common and unquestioningly accepted foundations on which all discussion proceeds  (Differ Quotes) We differ from one another in our individual gifts which, however, belong to our inner nature  (Differ Quotes) All classes of society are trade unionists at heart, and differ chiefly in the boldness, ability, and secrecy with which they pursue their respective interests  (Differ Quotes) We cannot afford to differ on the question of honesty if we expect our republic permanently to endure. Honesty is not so much a credit as an absolute prerequisite to efficient service to the public. Unless a man is honest, we have no right to keep him in public life; it matters not how brilliant his capacity  (Differ Quotes) We have but one flag, one country; let us stand together. We may differ in color, but not in sentiment  (Differ Quotes) A company in which anyone is afraid to speak up, to differ, to be daring and original, is closing the coffin door on itself  (Differ Quotes) I will no longer confer, differ, refer, defer, prefer, or suffer. I renounce the whole tribe of fero. I embrace absolute life  (Differ Quotes) All men are equal in nature, and also in original sin. It is in the merits and demerits of their actions that they differ  (Differ Quotes) There is no need to suppose that human beings differ very much one from another; but it is true that the ones who come out on top are the ones who have been trained in the hardest school  (Differ Quotes) The teaching of the ten thousand states of mind, particularly as one advances further, is done through transmission. This is where we differ from teaching algebra or calculus  (Differ Quotes) Poets and men of action differ: the former yield to their feelings in order to reproduce them in lively colors, and therefore judge only ex post facto; the latter feel and judge at one and the same time  (Differ Quotes) I believe that it is a great mistake not to stand up for people, even when you differ with them, if you feel that they are trying to do things that will help our country  (Differ Quotes) Religion is the eldest sister of philosophy: on whatever subjects they may differ, it is unbecoming in either to quarrel, and most so about their inheritance  (Differ Quotes) Perhaps the habit which distinguishes civilized people from others is that of discussion, exchange of opinion and ideas, the ability to differ without quarrelling, to say what you have to say civilly and then to listen civilly to another speaker  (Differ Quotes) Does man differ from the other animals? Only in posture. The rest are bent, but he is a wild beast who walks upright  (Differ Quotes) Cyber attacks are not what makes the cool war cool. As a strategic matter, they do not differ fundamentally from older tools of espionage and sabotage  (Differ Quotes) All opinions in the world agree in this, that pleasure is our end, although they differ as to the means of attaining it  (Differ Quotes) If men would consider not so much wherein they differ, as wherein they agree, there would be far less of uncharitableness and angry feeling in the world  (Differ Quotes) No person who examines and reflects, can avoid seeing that there is but one race of people on the earth, who differ from each other only according to the soil and the climate in which they live  (Differ Quotes) We had many more points of agreement than we had points of difference, but we did differ, and the bigger we got, the more insistent we got that each one of us should have his way  (Differ Quotes) Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions  (Differ Quotes) Decadence is a difficult word to use since it has become little more than a term of abuse applied by critics to anything they do not yet understand or which seems to differ from their moral concepts  (Differ Quotes) In principle the great religions of the world do not differ as much as they appear to  (Differ Quotes) Do not think of knocking out another person’s brains because he differs in opinion from you. It would be as rational to knock yourself on the head because you differ from yourself ten years ago  (Differ Quotes) He, who steadily observes those moral precepts in which all religions concur, will never be questioned at the gates of heaven as to the dogmas in which they all differ  (Differ Quotes) All men are alike in their lower natures; it is in their higher characters that they differ  (Differ Quotes) I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion about the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it  (Differ Quotes)
