I was who I was in high school in accordance with the rules of conduct for a normal person, like obeying your mom and dad. Then I got out of high school and moved out of the house, and I just started, for lack of a better term, running free  (Who I Was Quotes) I’m famous by default. I came out of the womb, and people wanted to know who I was because of my parents  (Who I Was Quotes) Probably the best thing that happened to me was going nuts. Nobody knew who I was until that happened  (Who I Was Quotes) Years from now, after I’m gone, someone will listen to what I’ve done and know I was here. They may not know or care who I was, but they’ll hear my guitars speaking for me  (Who I Was Quotes) My shadow in my art is one way I trace who I was and where I have been. My shadow and I have been on a journey for quite a while now!  (Who I Was Quotes) Now that people know who I am, I get offered plays here and there. It was so much easier to do it when nobody knew who I was. I can’t even imagine that somebody would come and pay money just to come and see me now  (Who I Was Quotes) My biggest problem in middle school was catty girls, cliques, and trying to figure out if I wanted to be a part of one of those, just figuring out who I was and all that  (Who I Was Quotes) Especially when you play a character for so many years, the character ends up reflecting a lot of who you are and I think I’ve changed a lot since then, but that represented a lot of who I was as a teenager  (Who I Was Quotes) I’ve certainly experienced racism, but it has not made a great impact on me. I have always thought, as I got older and older, I was more in charge of who I was. What someone thought about me or said about me made less of an impression on me at very vulnerable times  (Who I Was Quotes) I was trying to write an autobiography using prints and patterns that reference emotional, psychological, and personal development in my work, as a person growing up, figuring out who I was. I used fabrics to stand in for occurrences  (Who I Was Quotes) I find I have to walk a little faster in public these days, but it’s very easy to remember when nobody had any idea who I was  (Who I Was Quotes) I’d got over playing a character. People accepted who I was, and if I was incompetent and useless, they felt quite endeared to me  (Who I Was Quotes) I’d spent so long trying to fit in,trying to be someone I wasn’t,that I had no idea who I was any more  (Who I Was Quotes) For so long, it was just my secret. It burned inside me, and I felt like I was carrying something important, something that made me who I was and made me different from everybody else. I took it with me everywhere, and there was never a moment when I wasn’t aware of it. It was like I was totally awake, like I could feel every nerve ending in my body. Sometimes my skin would almost hurt from the force of it, that’s how strong it was. Like my whole body was buzzing or something. I felt almost, I don’t know, noble, like a medieval knight or something, carrying this secret love around with me  (Who I Was Quotes) I don’t know who I am or who I was. I know it less than ever. I do and I don’t identify myself with myself. Everything is totally contradictory, but maybe I have remained exactly as I was as a small boy of twelve  (Who I Was Quotes) Living in different cultures helped me work out who I was going to be, separate from where I came from  (Who I Was Quotes) When I was in my 20s, I thought I knew who I was. And then as soon as I turned 30, I realized that I have bruises and bumps and dark parts. And you kind of go, well, that’s it. I’d rather embrace it than force myself to change  (Who I Was Quotes) In my early twenties, I had no idea who I was. And I think that’s one reason you should try different relationships. I’ve had good and bad ones, but I took away things from them that helped me become who I am  (Who I Was Quotes) I was spoiled and I was arrogant. I was very demanding, had an overblown image of who I was and got a reputation for being difficult. And rightfully so  (Who I Was Quotes) One or two years ago, I didn’t know who I was on court and I used to swear a lot. But now I’ve learned how to cope and can therefore win 10 matches in a row. I want to be remembered as a good player rather than an idiot on court  (Who I Was Quotes) I couldn’t resist. I went over and joined in, and we just sang the song together,... They had no idea that I had written it, or who I was. I was just some weird guy who wanted to join in on the singing  (Who I Was Quotes) No, I was an unknown when I walked in that room. He didn’t know who I was from a fly on the wall  (Who I Was Quotes) I was deeply uncertain of who I was and who I wanted to be. I really thought I wanted to be a much cooler guy than what I was  (Who I Was Quotes) I am fooling only myself when I say that my mother exists now only in the photographs on my bulletin board or in the outline of my hand or in the armful of memories I still hold tight. She lives on beneath everything I do. Her presence influenced who I was and her absence influences who I am. Our lives are shaped as much by those who leave us as they are by those who stay. Loss is our legacy. Insight is our gift. Memory is our guide  (Who I Was Quotes) As I get older I see that running has changed for me. What used to be about burning calories is now more about burning up what is false. Lies I used to tell myself about who I was and what I could do, friendships that cannot withstand hills or miles, the approval I no longer need to seek, and solidarity that cannot bear silence. I run to burn up what I don’t need and ignite what I do  (Who I Was Quotes) You should know how great things were before you. Even so, they’re better still today. I can’t think of who I was before you ruined everything in the nicest way  (Who I Was Quotes) In my early 30s, I started to realise I was avoiding something on a personal level, but also as a writer. I was in denial about who I was, and was trying to be someone who I was not  (Who I Was Quotes) My real self, the self I have always been from a child, is a loner and nerd, slightly overweight, with a very heavy fringe. That is who I was as a kid. I don’t think I will ever be anything other than that  (Who I Was Quotes) I feel like I didn’t know who I was when I was 15. I don’t feel like you’re who you are for life, not even when you’re 20  (Who I Was Quotes) There was a perception of me, and I earned it because I was really intense, really gruff. I treated certain people poorly at times. It was because of who I was. It was almost my strength. I came in all business. I tried to find ways to fit in with that demeanor, but it’s not easy  (Who I Was Quotes)
