Text Quotes
I love a lot of very sentimental music, but I shouldn’t necessarily be the person who makes it  (Sentimental Quotes) On the set I make jokes I can’t get too involved, or it turns into sentimental soup. I try to keep it light  (Sentimental Quotes) I would hate to think I’m promoting sadness as an aesthetic. But I grew up in not just a family but a town and a culture where sadness is something you’re taught to feel shame about. You end up chronically desiring what can be a very sentimental idea of love and connection. A lot of my work has been about trying to make a space for sadness  (Sentimental Quotes) I’m pretty good at surprising friends and family with gifts. I tend to go towards the more sentimental side of giving  (Sentimental Quotes) I think that in some cases, I’ve made films that have a sentimental quality, at least as part of the film  (Sentimental Quotes) I like grit, I like love and death, I’m tired of irony... A lot of good fiction is sentimental... The novelist who refuses sentiment refuses the full spectrum of human behavior, and then he just dries up... I would rather give full vent to all human loves and disappointments, and take a chance on being corny, than die a smartass  (Sentimental Quotes) It’s a most distressing affliction to have a sentimental heart and a skeptical mind  (Sentimental Quotes) To claim that music is more important than oxygen would be trite and sentimental. It would also be true  (Sentimental Quotes) Perhaps when we’re forced to forfeit what we own, we lose any sentimental associations. Perhaps pawning our valuables frees us in the same way a house fire destroys not only our worldly goods, but our attachment to what’s gone  (Sentimental Quotes) Compassion is not a sloppy sentimental feeling for people who are underprivileged or sick... it is an absolutely practical belief that regardless of a person’s background, ability or ability to pay, he should be provided with the best that society has to offer  (Sentimental Quotes) Women are not as sentimental as men, and are not so easily touched with the unspoken poetry of nature, being less poetical, and having less imagination; they are more fitted for practical affairs, and would make fewer failures in business  (Sentimental Quotes) It was chilling to realize that the sentimental qualities most valued between people, like loyalty, constancy, and affection, are the ones most likely to impede change  (Sentimental Quotes) If you do not have an alert and curious interest in character and dramatic situation, if you have no visual imagination and are unable to distinguish between honest emotional reactions and sentimental approaches to life, you will never write a competent short story  (Sentimental Quotes) Sentimental assertions are always a form of detachment; they confront the acute, terrible awareness of individual pain, the sharp particularity of loss or the fierce individuality of passion with the dulling universal certainty of platitude  (Sentimental Quotes) If you just tell the story of what the storys about, then it sparks curiosity, but I think it also arouses suspicion, as you say, that it could be overly sentimental. But it so isnt. And I think it was all about doing the inner work and then underplaying everything  (Sentimental Quotes) I either write the book or sell the jewels. And I’m kinda sentimental about the jewels  (Sentimental Quotes) I guess I get a little sentimental, but I’m so used to moving on and making myself stronger where that’s concerned, otherwise I would just be a wreck!  (Sentimental Quotes) It is not a sentimental, but a grimly literal fact that unless we share this terrestrial globe with creatures other than ourselves, we shall not be able to live on it for long  (Sentimental Quotes) Composers and musicians have always starved and, as this is a sentimental country, we think the tradition should be continued  (Sentimental Quotes) To show compassion for an individual without showing concern for the structures of society that make him an object of compassion is to be sentimental rather than loving  (Sentimental Quotes) Each day a few more lies eat into the seed with which we are born, little institutional lies from the print of newspapers, the shock waves of television, and the sentimental cheats of the movie screen  (Sentimental Quotes) Sometimes, people end up thankful for what they mourned. You cannot achieve this state by seeking tragedy, but you can keep yourself open more to sorrow’s richness than to unmediated despair. Tragedies with happy endings may be sentimental tripe, or they may be the true meaning of love  (Sentimental Quotes) There is perhaps no field aspiring to be scientific where flagrant personal bias, logic martyred in the cause of supporting a prejudice, unfounded assertions, and even sentimental rot and drivel, have run riot to such an extent as here  (Sentimental Quotes) I don’t think my writing is sentimental, although it is a very sentimental thing to be a human being  (Sentimental Quotes) I have now and again tried to imagine the perfect environment, the ideal conditions for reading: A worn leather armchair on a rainy night? A hammock in a freshly mown backyard? A verandah overlooking the summer sea? Good choices, every one. But I have no doubt that they are all merely displacements, sentimental attempts to replicate the warmth and snugness of my mother’s lap  (Sentimental Quotes) Life is sentimental. Why should I be cold and hard about it? That’s the main content. The biggest thing in people’s lives is their loves and dreams and visions, you know  (Sentimental Quotes) We agree that language functions in a certain way so that we can understand each other; but within that are built all sorts of sentimental codes, codes of authenticity, codes of certain kinds of emotion  (Sentimental Quotes) If any feel that as psychiatrists directing a hospital for alcoholics we appear somewhat sentimental, let them stand with us a while on the firing line, see the tragedies, the despairing wives, the little children; let the solving of these problems become a part of their daily work, and even of their sleeping moments, and the most cynical will not wonder that we have accepted and encouraged this movement. We feel, after years of experience, that we have found nothing which has contributed more to the rehabilitation of these men than the altruistic movement now growing up among them  (Sentimental Quotes) I am a bit difficult to be around sometimes. I can be stubborn on a lot of things, and I’m set, but I can also adapt in a conflict situation and don’t hold on to an ego. I end up seeing the larger good and adapt to it, provided it benefits me. I may come across as a cold person, but I am extremely sentimental  (Sentimental Quotes) Retiring from cricket is not about form. I feel that the time is now and it’s right. I’ve tried to give everything I have when I’ve played the game, the game goes on. You can’t hold onto it and people shouldn’t be too sentimental. I think a lot better players and greater players have gone, and the game has gone on and there are new players who take the mantle, and in my case it won’t be any different  (Sentimental Quotes)
