When I realized I was having trouble reading, I was too embarrassed to ask for help. Some teachers believed in me, but I just wasn’t focused on school - I was into the music and trying to please my dad  (Reading Teachers Quotes) I was reading five or six years ahead of my grade during public school. I was pretty bored. I made a contract with some of my teachers that if I didn’t ask too many questions, I could work in the back of the room  (Reading Teachers Quotes) I’ve been reading Greek mythology since I was a kid. I also taught it when I was a sixth grade teacher, so I knew a lot of mythological monsters already. Sometimes I still use books and Web sites to research, though. Every time I research Greek mythology, I learn something new!  (Reading Teachers Quotes) My dad was a football player - a soccer player - for Manchester United, and I loved playing football, but I also happened to be the guy in class who was pretty good at sight reading. My teacher gave me scripts, and I was very comfortable  (Reading Teachers Quotes) One of the first serious attempts I made to write a novel was when I was in Grade 6 and I had read ‘Matilda.’ I wrote my own version and my teacher had it bound and permitted me to read it to the class - cementing my love of reading, writing and Roald Dahl!  (Reading Teachers Quotes) I remember my fourth grade teacher reading ‘Charlotte’s Web’ and ‘Stuart Little’ to us - both, of course, by E. B. White. His stories were genuinely funny, thought provoking and full of irony and charm. He didn’t condescend to his readers, which was why I liked his books, and why I wasn’t a big reader of other children’s’ books  (Reading Teachers Quotes) Access to books and the encouragement of the habit of reading: these two things are the first and most necessary steps in education and librarians, teachers and parents all over the country know it. It is our children’s right and it is also our best hope and their best hope for the future.  (Reading Teachers Quotes) I didn’t really like reading much before I did ‘The Golden Compass’. But then my teacher told me to read it. And I thought, ‘Oh God, I’m going to have to read a whole book by myself!’ It’s not that I couldn’t read, it’s just that I didn’t really like books very much. But the book that she lent me I really enjoyed.  (Reading Teachers Quotes) Perhaps it is partly that we need to love books ourselves as parents, grandparents and teachers in order to pass on that passion for stories to our children. It’s not about testing and reading schemes, but about loving stories and passing on that passion to our children.  (Reading Teachers Quotes) When I was in the first grade I was afraid of the teacher and had a miserable time in the reading circle, a difficulty that was overcome by the loving patience of my second grade teacher. Even though I could read, I refused to do so  (Reading Teachers Quotes) I do readings at the public library. I just did a benefit scene night for my old acting teacher  (Reading Teachers Quotes) Children should learn that reading is pleasure, not just something that teachers make you do in school  (Reading Teachers Quotes) High school teachers who want to get reluctant readers turned around need to give the students some say in the reading list. Make it collaborative: The students will feel ownership, and everyone will dig in  (Reading Teachers Quotes)
