Text Quotes
I read a little bit of nonfiction and a lot of poetry. I think of poetry as my shot of whiskey when I don’t have time to savor a whole bottle of wine.  (Nonfiction Quotes) I like to read, especially nonfiction. I love learning, so I study languages, cook, learn basic HTML, and enjoy other activities that stimulate communication and the dark recesses of my musician’s brain.  (Nonfiction Quotes) Because the kind of nonfiction I write has a plot, the events and transactions that make up a life, nonfiction offers me a break from plotting.  (Nonfiction Quotes) For me in my twenties, working in Hollywood was confusing in that the differences between what was fiction and what was nonfiction seemed to blur in my mind. Everything became a visual memory for me. I carried my Leica camera, giving opportunity to take pictures from my view.  (Nonfiction Quotes) I’m very, very leery of nonfiction books where they change timeframes and use - what do they call those things? - composite characters. I don’t think that’s right.  (Nonfiction Quotes) In terms of a narrative nonfiction book, when you’re describing scenes that you have multiple sources for, and that you have differing sources for, and you decide to choose a path that puts all that information together, well yeah, there’s definitely going to be a little bit of the author in that. But there’s nothing wrong with that.  (Nonfiction Quotes) When your work is nonfiction about low-income communities, pretty much anything that’s not nonfiction about low-income communities feels like a guilty pleasure.  (Nonfiction Quotes) While I love to read contemporary fiction, I’m not drawn to writing it. Perhaps it’s because the former journalist in me is too inhibited by the press of reality; when I think about writing of my own time I always think about nonfiction narratives. Or perhaps it’s just that I find the present too confounding.  (Nonfiction Quotes) It’s rare for me to read any fiction. I almost only read nonfiction. I don’t believe in guilty pleasures, I only believe in pleasures. People who call reading detective fiction or eating dessert a guilty pleasure make me want to puke.  (Nonfiction Quotes) Writing nonfiction has been my most serious education, and for all those years it kept me from even glancing in the direction of despair.  (Nonfiction Quotes) Nonfiction writers are second-class citizens, the Ellis Island of literature. We just can’t quite get in. And yes, it pisses me off.  (Nonfiction Quotes) Generally, I read nonfiction. There’s very little fiction that I enjoy enough to spend my time reading. I am generally a nonfiction guy.  (Nonfiction Quotes) Everyone else thinks I’m a nonfiction writer. I think it’s because my nonfiction is easier to find. But I write both in equal measure. I love writing fiction because I can totally lose myself, and I get to make up the rules of the world that I’m writing.  (Nonfiction Quotes) I’m all about nonfiction. I rarely read fiction. I like to read about things that really happened, facts, real life situations. That’s what inspires me.  (Nonfiction Quotes) My favourite all-time work of fiction: Lord of the Rings. My favourite all-time nonfiction book: Guns, Germs, and Steel. Ask me again next week, you’ll get a different answer.  (Nonfiction Quotes) There’s no division on my bookshelf between fiction and nonfiction. As far as I’m concerned, fiction is about the truth.  (Nonfiction Quotes) Writing is writing, and stories are stories. Perhaps the only true genres are fiction and nonfiction. And even there, who can be sure?  (Nonfiction Quotes) Fiction and nonfiction are not so easily divided. Fiction may not be real, but it’s true; it goes beyond the garland of facts to get to emotional and psychological truths.  (Nonfiction Quotes) Fiction and nonfiction are not so easily divided. Fiction may not be real, but it’s true; it goes beyond the garland of facts to get to emotional and psychological truths. As for nonfiction, for history, it may be real, but its truth is slippery, hard to access, with no fixed meaning bolted to it. If history doesn’t become story, it dies to everyone except the historian.  (Nonfiction Quotes) Fiction is harder for me than nonfiction - more gratifying, as a result, when it succeeds  (Nonfiction Quotes) I tend to read more nonfiction, really, because when I’m writing I don’t like to read other fiction.  (Nonfiction Quotes) I’m drawn to fiction that hints at nonfiction, that blurs or seems to blur the boundaries between invention and autobiography.  (Nonfiction Quotes) The hardest piece of nonfiction I ever wrote isn’t anywhere close to the easiest piece of fiction I never wrote.  (Nonfiction Quotes) As a writer who writes poetry, nonfiction, and fiction, I think it’s important to always maintain a firm grasp on genre and ethics.  (Nonfiction Quotes) I am led to the proposition that there is no fiction or nonfiction as we commonly understand the distinction: there is only narrative.  (Nonfiction Quotes) I view myself as a fiction writer who just happens to write nonfiction. I think I look at the world through a fiction-writer’s eyes.  (Nonfiction Quotes) The truth is that every writer, whether it’s fiction or nonfiction, is trying to write something truly original and that’s what I think I’m doing.  (Nonfiction Quotes) I would, however, start writing fiction about 10 years before I actually did, because it’s such great fun to do, many times more creative than nonfiction.  (Nonfiction Quotes) At least for me, it takes more knowledge to write fiction than nonfiction. At least about someplace that I begin with a lot of ignorance about.  (Nonfiction Quotes) After writing fiction for so long, I like the discovery element of nonfiction, in the sense that when you find the right information, it feels like gold.  (Nonfiction Quotes)
