Text Quotes
Woman on the Plaza,’ with its distinct horizon, snow-like surfaces, wintry wall, stunning sunlight, sharp shadows, and hurrying figure, would become the most biographical of my photographs - an abstract image of the landscape and life of northern Ohio where I grew up and first practiced photography.  (My Photo Quotes) I ran into Ellen at a photo shoot. She took my breath away. That had never happened to me in my life  (My Photo Quotes) I’m exchanging molecules every 30 days with the natural world and in a spiritual sense I know I am a part of it and take my photographs from that emotional feeling within me, rather than from an emotional distance as a spectator  (My Photo Quotes) Oh my God, I’m not anorexic. I acknowledge that I look thin in photos. I get it  (My Photo Quotes) I know most of the photographers in Ireland. And if I don’t want my photograph taken, they will leave me alone  (My Photo Quotes) But I’ve become completely obsessed with taking photos on my iPhone. I have like 400 apps  (My Photo Quotes) My aim is increasingly to make my photographs look so much like photographs [rather than paintings, etchings, etc.] that unless one has eyes and sees, they won’t be seen - and still everyone will never forget having once looked at them  (My Photo Quotes) I try to dress a little casual before my photo-shoots. I can be comfortable before I go into my... transition  (My Photo Quotes) I grew up as a photo nut. Every Christmas I would get a new camera. It’s a huge part of my life  (My Photo Quotes) It would have been possible to structure my photographs in such a way that no indicators of the present were discernible. However, I wanted to incorporate into the project as a whole the jostling of time-frames I would feel as I set up my tripod on various rocky promontories  (My Photo Quotes) As in any person’s life, there have been difficult moments: I have a son with Down’s syndrome; through my photography, I have witnessed all manner of human degradation. But there have also been very happy moments  (My Photo Quotes) Ansel [Adams] always jumped over the fence to photograph, walked past the garbage. He always looked to get an immaculate view, and I spent my life stepping back to include the garbage in my photographic view  (My Photo Quotes) My photography changed from being more documentary-like to arranging things more, and that came into being partly because I started doing music videos, and I incorporated some things from the music videos into my photography again, by arranging things more.  (My Photo Quotes) I think of many of my photographs as being obviously symbolic but not symbolically obvious. There isn’t any specific correlation between the symbols in this image and any content that I have in mind.  (My Photo Quotes) Gleaning is getting things that are abandoned. I did not abandon my early pictures, my photos, my early films. It’s just going through my body of work as something I can pick from.  (My Photo Quotes) I was not a Southern California girl. I hated having my photograph taken. I felt shy and embarrassed around famous people.  (My Photo Quotes) What I’m trying to do is make photographs that are universally understood... that cross cultural lines. I want my photographs to be about the basic emotions and feelings that we all experience.  (My Photo Quotes) The beauty of women was the first expression of my photography  (My Photo Quotes) I hate having my photograph taken  (My Photo Quotes) People criticized me for my photography. They said it’s not art  (My Photo Quotes) There are no reasons for my photographs, nor any rules; all depends on the mood of the moment  (My Photo Quotes) I think of my photographs as being obviously symbolic, but not symbolically obvious  (My Photo Quotes) My uniform is usually just comfortable clothing. Being a stylist, you spend most of the day at photo shoots covered in safety pins  (My Photo Quotes) And I also take photos of hydrogen bomb, from another part of the building. It was not part of my job, but I succeeded to go and take photos of the hydrogen bomb  (My Photo Quotes) In many ways, unexpected results are what have most inspired my photography  (My Photo Quotes) Sex is not a subject in my photographs, or would only be if it had to do with romance, sometimes vulnerability. The photographs are quite clearly about happiness, or search for happiness  (My Photo Quotes) My strangest media moment a photo session they all had dressed up like 50 gangsters. That was pretty cool. We have to get some more of those kind of photos sometimes  (My Photo Quotes) I want my photos to be fresh and urgent. A good photograph should be a call to arms  (My Photo Quotes) My photographs are not pure: they are a seething wealth of imperfection  (My Photo Quotes) But empirically I’ve come to understand that my photographs really don’t do any harm  (My Photo Quotes)
